Quinton Athletic vs Austin Ex in the Redditch Premiership
Counter Cut reporting some local football events
First game back from a fairly poor Pre-Season for Quinton, scorching temperature for both sides! Austin champions last season so Quinton in for a tricky test!
A steady first 10/15 minutes with either team not giving much away and a very cagey affair. A few half chances for both sides but nothing troubling either keeper. Whitehouse eventually having to make a save mid way through the half when their striker had a free header on goal. Some good phases of play by Quinton but couldn’t unlock the final pass and release a shot at the Austin keeper!
HT 0-0
Upon the referee blowing the whistle for the second half, Truslove spotted the keeper off his line and launched a strike rippling down the back of the net leaving the keeper stranded. 1-0.
Quinton boosted by this almost instantly scored a second goal, which was very questionably flagged offside… Sunday league for you!!
Austin made a few changes to freshen up the legs, as did Quinton with Walters & Kemp coming on. Austin midfielder found himself a bit of space around 40 yards out and hit a strike straight into the Quinton net with Whitehouse unfortunately caught off this line! 1-1.
Austin with the bit between their teeth overloaded the back post allowing them to strike into the net. 1-2.
Quinton couldn’t find anything to grab an equaliser and the game finished Quinton 1-2 Austin.
A very tough game with lots of challenges flying in. Very much looking forward for the return leg at Austin Ex. Thanks to Rubery Atletico and everybody else who came for the support.
